SEAS – Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis – is a scientifically based exercise approach for scoliosis. Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis (SEAS) was developed in Italy by the Istituto Scientifico Italiano Colonna Vertebrale (ISICO). The SEAS method is based on specific active three-dimensional self-correction and spinal stabilisation. Further information supporting the scientific evidence behind the SEAS approach is available in the publications on the ISICO website: https://en.isico.it/research. In its approach to the non-operative treatment of scoliosis, ISICO fully follows the guidelines of SOSORT (Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment). The individual programme is tailored according to the degree and type of scoliosis, as well as the patient’s ability to concentrate. Patients attend individual sessions.
Recognised methods for the non-operative treatment of scoliosis include seven scientifically established approaches worldwide, whose results are regularly published and reported. These methods are described in the article “Specific Physiotherapeutic Exercises for Adolescents with Idiopathic Scoliosis”, published in the European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in February 2014 by Josette Bettany-Saltikov, Eric Parent, Michele Romano and Monica Villagrasa.
